Airtable is a brilliant product — for the right problem. It’s a relational database with a friendly face: linked records, rollups, formulas, and an interface builder. Plenty of teams also use it for task tracking, and that’s where the friction starts.
A database wearing a task manager costume
Task management in Airtable is something you build: create a table, add a status single-select, add a due date, wire up automations, and maintain it forever. There are no native dependencies with cycle protection, no time tracking at all, no threaded discussions — because Airtable isn’t a task manager, it’s a toolkit.
TskVlo starts from the other end. A board already knows what a task is: it has groups (columns), assignees, comments with @mentions and reactions, sub-items, dependencies, recurring schedules, and a timer button. You configure fields, not the concept of work itself.
What “out of the box” actually means
- Six views on every board — Table, Kanban, Calendar, Gantt-style Timeline, Files, and chart Dashboards — with no view types locked behind a plan.
- Time tracking built in: start a timer or log entries manually, then export per-member and per-task reports as CSV. Airtable simply doesn’t do this.
- Real collaboration: threaded comments, emoji reactions, file attachments, and real-time updates without refreshing.
- Automation without a meter: trigger–condition–action rules per board, with no monthly run quotas during the beta.
AI on your terms
TskVlo ships a built-in AI assistant that can answer questions about a board (“what’s overdue and who’s overloaded?”) and draft tasks from a plain-language description. Under the hood, admins connect any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — OpenAI, Mistral, Ollama, your own vLLM server — so you decide where your data goes. And the full MCP server lets Claude and other AI assistants manage tasks directly.
Where Airtable still wins
If you need linked records across tables, rollups, lookups, or custom interfaces on top of your data, Airtable is the better tool — TskVlo’s item relations are still on the roadmap. Many teams end up with both: Airtable as the structured dataset, TskVlo as the place work actually gets planned and finished.
Moving your tasks over
Export the relevant Airtable table as CSV and import it in TskVlo under Board Settings → Import / Export. Single-selects become status fields, collaborators become person fields, and you’re running in minutes.
